Lobby as a Hobby
Lobby as a Hobby
Lobby as a Hobby and life will expand in front of your eyes. What a buzz! You will get to know the most powerful people in Australia. How pleasant to enjoy their assistance when you need it or to shape society in a particular way.
Make it a hobby to lobby the people you elected you to represent you. Be ready to influence what the government does
Democracy best
Democracy IS the best form of government for the everyday people and Australia leads the world in taking advantage of it. We will be happy to share the secrets with people in other democracies too. It can become worse if the people elect dictator. Hitler was elected then had most opponents shot on one day. Other supposed democracies have suffered a similar fate. So voters need to be very careful to ensure that the people they elect will listen to what they want. That is the first step to having them serve those who elect and pay them.
Pollies under Pressure
Currently in Australia and t other democracies a form of bribing, bullying threatening, lobbying by wealthy corporations prevails. That enables them to have government give them lucrative contracts, favourable laws and policies. At the same time they are able to bribe, bully and threaten politicians into giving them ultra low tax rates. Company tax in Australia has fallen by one third since I started my Chartered Accountancy practice. The corporations do not effectively pay GST like voters do. So they pay about half the tax rates on income and spending that voters do. Politicians are not game to increase it. Corporation bosses engage highly skilled accountants and lawyers to walk them through the loopholes in the tax laws. That ensures they show low taxable incomes despite high multi-billion dollar profits.
Politicians and the people
When more Aussie voters lobby for a hobby, their elected parliamentary representatives will be game to make fairer laws. They will manage to and resist the expensive infrastructure contracts with ever-increasing costs.
Elected and neglected by the voters, most MPs are easy prey for the predators. Predators want society working for their own enrichment . When we voters get into serious lobbying our MPs are able to stand up to any pressure from the unscrupulous self-enrichment troupe.
Lobby for a hobby and give our elected parliament your support and the courage to do what you want done. Currently most Australians know not much about democracy or the joys of lobbying
Influential Voters
It was liars and cheats in the bottom level of government that led me to find a way to empower the everyday Australians to become so influential. From corrupt politicians and public servants I have now been able to see the very best in both groups. The media gives us the impression that we are government by a bunch of incompetents. It makes good stories. If the media sticks pins into politicians every day the politicians jump up and down and run around in circles. They mimic bull stuck with barbs in a bull fight. The pollies then have as much chance of winning as the bull does.
But when good natured friendly Aussies adopt lobbying as a hobby, they give the MPs courage to do what is needed. They build very good relationships with those MPs. Government “for” the people depends on government “by” the people. We voters in our homes, farms, businesses, jobs and communities, know perfectly well what is needed. People are mostly smart enough to know that whatever is done will be paid for by us. So it is wise to keep our requests simple.
Silent majority
We often hear of the silent majority, particularly when there is a noisy minority shouting slogans and waving posters on a street corner. They are demanding that the government does what they want. More often than not that offends the politicians by making them look stupid. It does more damage to the cause than good.
Those with children and particularly teenagers will avoid yelling at them in front of their friends demanding that they clean up their rooms. Better results are achieved by building good relationships, polite requests and heaps of thanks and praise for doing what is wanted.
But those who do not want to stand up and protest do not have to become part of the Silent Majority. The silent majority, by definition, cannot be heard. That is by their own choice. But when you Lobby as a Hobby, you will be heard a lot better. You will be heard by vast numbers of politicians if you do it properly. Because you are polite they will listen to what you say. When you say it to all of them you will reach those who are interested in the topic. As you are a voter they will pay serious attention to your request and explanations. Hobbyist Lobbyists discover how to quietly go into a marginal electorate and influence voters there. They can do it as well a in their own electorate. Politicians, asked properly, will do what you want unless there are very good reasons not to.
Success
Fun and excitement will follow you as you hone your skills when you lobby as a hobby. You will have the satisfaction of watching your ideas turn into reality. You will probably encourage some of your family or friends to pick up this hobby. It can deliver far greater achievements that stamp or coin collecting. Even collecting dolls or jugs cannot be quite as rewarding. The rewards of this hobby will be seen in the lives of other Aussies for generation.
Postage stamps are heading out of fashion and coins may do the same. To Lobby as a Hobby is just in its infancy. As it grows government will become more aligned with community expectations. The lobbying hobbyists will in fact be driving it.
